People who have not made a Will yet have been told it is more important they do so now than it has ever been at any point in the past.

According to Brian McMillan, director-general of The Society of Will Writers, this is because many people are in their second or third marriage and may have children from a previous relationship too.

He explained how the presence of stepchildren in a household also needs to be taken into account as a person has to consider what they will receive in the Will.

Mr McMillan advised those looking to make a Will not to scrimp on the cost of creating the document.

He said: "The cheapest option is not necessarily always the best. Certainly in Wills you will get what you pay for. There is no such thing as a free lunch in Wills."

Keith Johnston, director of philanthropy at the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, recently stated that it is important the right questions are asked during the drafting of a Will.
