'It is of great importance' to ask a solicitor to draft a Will

People should make a Will with a solicitor if they want to be sure of how their assets will be distributed when they die, it has been noted.

Writing for the Journal, Francesca Craggs described how there are several important reasons to draw up such a document.

She explained that unmarried partners cannot inherit from each other without a Will and the law decides where a deceased person's money goes if one is not in place.

Ms Craggs labelled the creation of a Will as being a "fundamental step" for individuals who want to safeguard their family's future without them.

The journalist also stressed that having a solicitor's help is vital, since many documents of this type are deemed invalid by courts if they have been written in an incorrect way - often by people who have chosen to draft the Will on their own.

This month, the York Press reported that a 92-year-old man who owned two properties and multiple bank accounts failed to make a Will before he died and his assets will be transferred to the Treasury's solicitor.
