Wills 'are a major part of financial planning'

Writing a will can play a key role in a person's financial planning for after their death, according to a financial adviser.

Ark Financial Planning has reminded consumers that wills can bring a number of benefits to those who make one, such as the protection they offer from potential inheritance tax charges.

The firm described the process of writing the document as "very simple" and stated that although periodic reviews are recommended, it is unlikely to be necessary to make regular updates to it.

Phil Perry, director of the advisory company, therefore called on people to make sure they take legal advice on writing a will in order to ensure their wishes are carried out smoothly after their death.

He said: "It is really just about making sure the individual identifies the things that are most important to them and make sure that they are left in the correct way."
