Son launches personal injury compensation claims following rail crash

A personal injury compensation claim has been launched by a man who lost three members of his family in a rail crash.

Donald Mackay's parents, as well as his uncle, died when the car they were travelling in was struck by the Inverness to Wick train on a level crossing in 2009.

He is therefore suing rail infrastructure operator Network Rail for failing to prevent the accident at the site, reports the John O'Groat Journal.

"Network Rail don’t seem to put any priority on implementing safety measures," he told the news provider, adding LED lights were put up in the immediate aftermath of the incident, but should have already been installed.

The company has committed to fitting a barrier at the site after an investigation by the Rail Accident Investigation Branch.

Network Rail took responsibility for the maintenance of Britain's railway systems ten years ago and manages 40,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts as part of its remit.
