Compensation for delayed hip replacement

Date:
11 November 2011

Ben Ward, a medical injury solicitor at Ashton KCJ, has obtained £7,000 for Mrs W after doctors at Poole Hospital failed to recognise that she required a right total hip replacement and there was a delay of over seven months before the total hip replacement was performed.

Mrs W had previously suffered a fracture to the hip which had been reduced and fixed into position with screws. She continued to suffer pain in her right knee and right hip. In April 2009, having taken x-rays of the hip, the hospital failed to refer Mrs W for an orthopaedic review. The Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust admitted that Mrs W’s symptoms had not been considered properly and that if she had been referred to an orthopaedic surgeon at that point her hip replacement would have been undertaken several months earlier, saving her considerable pain and suffering. Mrs W’s hip replacement was carried out successfully in early 2010 after she had sought a second opinion.

Mrs W was “thrilled with the outcome of her case” and thanked Ben Ward for “listening” to her when others had not.  If you would like individual advice about a possible medical injury claim, please contact Ben or a member of the Medical Injury team on 0800 616299.
