Family wins "substantial" compensation following asbestos death

A family has been awarded compensation described as "substantial" after 80-year-old great-grandfather Arthur Prestidge died as a result of asbestos-related illness.

He was killed by a rare form of cancer due to working as a welder and boilermaker from 1951 to 1986 on board ships and his former employer Humber Graving Docks of Immingham has now agreed a settlement.

Son David Winter - also a welder - told the Grimsby Telegraph that claiming compensation was the last thing on his father's mind as the illness took hold so quickly.

"Over the years I have watched my dad's friends and my own colleagues develop asbestos-related disease," he said.

Arthur's wife Rosemary added that while no amount of money will bring her husband back, the family has at least now got justice for his death.

The family of Lutterworth pensioner Dorothy Kerslake recently launched a claim for compensation after she died of asbestos-related illnesses allegedly developed due to working at a Raleigh factory in the early 1940s, the Rugby Observer reported.

If you have been exposed to asbestos and have developed any problems as a result, the Ashton KCJ personal injury team will be happy to advise on whether you have a claim.
