A local authority has been revealed to have paid £1.3 million in pothole-related compensation settlements.

As a result, Cardiff City Council is looking into spending ten times this amount on a programme to repair the region's roads, reports the South Wales Echo.

Councillor Lisa Ford, executive member for highways, stated that the proposal would be discussed early next year after officials report back their findings.

"It will bring forward recommendations as to how the council could manage and invest in the medium to long-term," she said.

Pentyrch's Conservative councillor Craig Williams, a member of the committee, added that fixing local roads is a high priority for residents.

It is thought between £7 million and £14 would be used to fix potholes all over the area.

This comes shortly after the Leicester Mercury reported that Leicester City Council paid over £350,000 in personal injury compensation in the last three years.
