Golf club worker wins personal injury compensation

A man who works at a golf club in the Midlands has won thousands of pounds in personal injury compensation.

The green keeper suffered a partial finger amputation after an accident when he was trying to unblock a machine that cleaned golf balls, reports the Coventry Telegraph.

He worked at Warwickshire Golf and Country Club in Leek Wootton - located close to Kenilworth and Leamington Spa - which was forced to pay out over £25,000 in total due to health and safety failures at the location.

The worker received a settlement of £5,000 in personal injury compensation, while the organisation was ordered to pay £8,000 costs to Warwick District Council and a fine of £13,500.

Councillor Michael Coker, portfolio holder for the environment, said: "This incident demonstrates that companies who use dangerous machinery must ensure such equipment is maintained in a safe condition and that staff are properly trained in their safe operation."
