Supermarket slip man gets

A man who launched a personal injury claim against supermarket Asda after he slipped on a grape in its Peterborough store has been awarded more than £10,000.

It is one of three such suits that involve this particular branch, with all the compensation claims relating to slips that took place in January 2008.

However, despite the multiple cases – and heavy criticism of the store from the judge who handed out the £10,500 award to Thomas Wardle last week – Asda denied there was a problem with cleanliness at the supermarket.

In a statement, a spokesman said: "We have thorough processes in place to ensure our store floors are kept clean to prevent anyone from slipping or falling," adding they were sorry that they did not meet their own high standards on this occasion.

Elsewhere, it was recently reported that a chip shop worker in Liverpool who suffered severe spinal injuries after slipping on a wet floor at the eatery may receive over £1 million in damages, the Liverpool Echo reported.
