Chip shop worker 'could get
A former chip shop worker who filed a personal injury claim after slipping on a wet floor at work could receive over £1 million in compensation.

The Liverpool Echo reports how 54-year-old Sylvia Cheung sustained severe head and spinal cord injuries in the fall in August 2008.

She alleged that the business' owner, Pei Hui Zhu, was liable for the incident and took her case to the High Court, which has decided in her favour.

Judge John Leighton Williams found Ms Cheung 15 per cent responsible for "contributory negligence," as she should have known the floor was wet, but ruled Mrs Zhu had breached her health and safety requirments, declaring her 85 per cent to blame.

While Ms Cheung is still mobile, her legal team stated she is likely to be confined to a wheelchair in the future.

They added that while the final award is yet to be determined, given the extent of their client's injuries, it is likely to be a seven-figure sum.

Elsewhere, it was reported last month that a driver in Worcester is seeking £3 million in compensation after he was seriously hurt in a collision with a horse, which left him with severe spinal damage.
