A car passenger has been awarded a sum of £1.1 million in personal injury compensation after being left brain damaged following a road crash.
David Sutton, 25, has experienced difficulties with depression and memory loss and is also at risk of suffering from epileptic fits and blackouts following the collision in January 2006, which resulted in him being airlifted to hospital.
After the victim's lawyers told High Court Judge Mrs Justice Nicola Davies that Mr Sutton lost his job following the incident and has since found it difficult to secure new employment, she approved a £1.1 million settlement offered by the insurers of the vehicle he was a passenger in, the Oxford Mail reports.
Mrs Justice Davies said: "These monies are not going to restore everything, but I hope that they will give those who love and care for David the means to do something which helps in the future."
In 2009 alone, there were some 222,146 road casualties in the UK, according to the Department for Transport.
