Personal injury compensation for pedestrian with 'catastrophic' brain damage
Personal injury compensation has been agreed for a man who sustained life-changing brain injuries in a road accident.

James Sedge, 25, had been crossing a road in Sheerness when he was hit by a BMW being driven by Christopher Prime in June 2006, Kent Online reports.

He was thrown across the road and his head hit a bollard, meaning the victim now needs 24-hour care for the catastrophic damage to his brain.

Through his mother Yolanda Skinner, legal action was taken against Mr Prime and a High Court hearing took place this week.

Judge Gary Burrell ruled Mr Prime had been driving too fast at the time of the accident and had therefore been "negligent".

He decided that he was "75 per cent responsible" for the accident, meaning Mr Sedge is now likely to receive millions of pounds in personal injury compensation to cover his long-term care.

Figures from the Department for Transport state that 26,912 people were killed or seriously injured on the UK's roads in 2009.
