A compensation payout of £180,000 has been awarded to the widow of a man who died while carrying out his job as a driving instructor.

Alan Underwood had been assessing Corinne Radburn in an 18-ton lorry when the accident occurred in a truck stop in Crick, Northamptonshire in March 2008.

He had asked her to drive towards a line of cones at 20 miles per hour and then perform an emergency stop in front of them.

However, the pupil did not stop and Mr Underwood - who had been standing around 15 metres behind the line of cones - was crushed between the vehicle and a parked trailer, dying instantly.

Dawn Underwood took legal action against her husband's employers Auto Search (Essex) - also known as Sterling Training Service - and Ms Radburn and 70 per cent liability has now been agreed at the High Court, with the judge approving the payout.
