Substantial compensation agreed for widow of gas explosion victim
A substantial sum in compensation has been agreed for a woman whose husband died at work.

Adam Johnston, 38, was working for Crown House Technologies and Kidde Fire Protection Systems in Hertfordshire in November 2008, the Sutton Guardian reports.

He was building part of a data processing plant when an aragonite gas cylinder suddenly exploded, igniting all the others around it and creating a massive blast.

Mr Johnston was killed and six other men were hurt, while 150 workers had to be evacuated to prevent further risks.

His widow Michelle took legal action against her husband's employers, who have now agreed to a "substantial" settlement for her loss, although the exact amount will be confirmed at a later date.

According to statistics published by the Health and Safety Executive, 42 fatal injuries to workers were recorded in the construction industry in 2009-10, more than any other sector in the UK.ADNFCR-2347-ID-800348337-ADNFCR
