Shop accident prompts pensioner to seek legal advice
An accident that took place in a shop has prompted a pensioner to seek legal advice with a view to making a personal injury compensation claim.

Ellen Williams, 85, was buying produce at Fruitful in Byker near Newcastle when the incident occurred last September, north-east newspaper the Evening Chronicle reports.

Part of the floor gave way and she fell into the cellar below, breaking a foot and becoming trapped.

Ms Williams had to wait two hours to be rescued and needed two weeks' treatment in hospital for her injuries.

However, doctors have now told her she will never fully regain the use of her foot, which has left her reliant on family members.

"It has ruined my independence as before I could go out whenever wanted but now I rely on others to help me," the victim commented.

As a result, the elderly lady has decided to seek the advice of a personal injury solicitor.

Shop owners have a responsibility under the Occupiers Liability Act to keep visitors safe and anyone hurt in one, or a similar public place, may be eligible to make a compensation claim.
