Pubs warned over fire safety measures
Licensed premises across the UK have been warned of their responsibilities with regard to fire safety after an investigation in Wales found a number of pubs and clubs to be severely lacking.

According to Workplace Law Network, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service carried out checks on a number of locations such as social clubs, public houses and private clubs.

It was found that levels of fire safety were often inadequate, potentially putting the lives of both staff and customers at risk.

Mark Kassab, spokesperson for the fire service, said faults included blocked or locked fire exits, smoke alarms that were not working and poor fire safety management, which he described as "frightening".

"Failure to comply with the Fire Safety Order can result in prosecution with fines and imprisonment for offences," he added.

The owners and occupiers of buildings and other public places have a duty to ensure they are in a safe state to prevent injuries to members of the public.

Anyone who suffers an injury while in a public place should seek the advice of a personal injury solicitor.
