Man seeks personal injury compensation after losing sight at work
A man who lost the sight in one of his eyes at work is seeking personal injury compensation from his former employer.

Ashley Brabbin, 25, was working as a landscape gardener for Glendale Managed Services when the accident occurred in October 2009.

The firm is based in Chorley, but Mr Brabbin had been mowing the grass at an allotment in Erdington.

Although he had checked for debris before getting aboard the ride-on machinery, he failed to notice a tiny piece of metal in the grass.

As he turned to check the grass was being cut, the gardener was hit in the eye as he had not been provided with safety goggles.

Mr Brabbin lost the sight in his right eye permanently and was forced to give up his job. He now also suffers from depression.

After the employer admitted full liability, Mr Brabbin now hopes to obtain personal injury compensation for his pain and suffering.

New statistics published by the Health and Safety Executive show that 5.1 million days were lost due to workplace injury in 2009-10.
