Clinical negligence payout for man who suffered due to delays in treatment
A man who suffered a serious brain injury due to delays in his treatment has received a large clinical negligence payout.

Addenbrooke's Hospital will have to pay £2 million after 42-year-old Neal Allen was left severely brain damaged as a result of a cerebral abscess being treated too slowly, reports the Cambridge News.

He will receive a lump-sum payment of more than £1 million after the hospital admitted it was at fault.

Mr Allen will also be given £35,000 per year until December 2013, with £34,000 per year set to be his annual clinical negligence payout between December 2013 and December 2028 and £44,477 from December 2028 for the rest of his life.

Addenbrooke's Hospital initially denied all blame for Mr Allen's brain injuries, which occurred when he was admitted to the establishment and diagnosed with a stroke.

This was despite the fact he carried a medical card alerting doctors to his increased likeliness of suffering brain abscesses.

Mr Allen had Osler-Weber-Rendu Syndrome, which is a hereditary condition that usually presents itself in the teenage years.
