Hospital scan errors cause concern

The BBC reported last week that a hospital has recently apologised for a human error which led to a pregnant woman being told after her initial scan that her baby was no longer alive when this was not in fact the case. A similar incident had occurred in 2007.

Rosamund Rhodes-Kemp, who heads the KCJ medical negligence team, comments: "This looks like a really sad error, but with fortunately better consequences then we usually have to deal with as both babies are alive and well. It does demonstrate the importance of having skilled staff to carry out these investigations and excellent support systems when it comes to communicating with patients".
