Birth injuries victim receives clinical negligence payout
A child who is severely disabled as a result of brain injuries she sustained at birth has received a clinical negligence payout from an NHS trust.

Kaysie-Jane Bland was born at Wordsley Hospital in 2004, but got into difficulties during her mother's labour, the Stourbridge News reports.

She was starved of oxygen and now cannot walk, talk or sit unaided and must be looked after by her mother Jane Robinson around the clock.

Ms Robinson argued that hospital staff did not react quickly enough when Kaysie-Jane was in distress and insisted that it was negligent and consequently responsible for the child's injuries.

Although it has not admitted liability, Dudley Group of Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has now agreed to a compensation package which will see the six-year-old receive a substantial amount to cover her lifelong care.

"It will make her life much easier and make it possible for me to give her the best of everything," Ms Robinson commented.

Kaysie-Jane's payout may be a similar sum to that received by eight-year-old Lewis Merrigan last month. He also sustained devastating brain injuries at birth and received £9.7 million in clinical negligence compensation.
