Football player could claim compensation after dangerous tackle

A football player could be eligible for compensation after he badly broke his leg when he was tackled by another player last year.

Terry Johnson, 26 had been playing in a Rugby and District Sunday League game last year when he was tackled by Mark Chapman from the opposing team.

The 20-year-old went in with such force that he broke Mr Johnson's leg in two places and he had to have rods and plates inserted in order to reconstruct it.

After a hearing at Warwick Crown Court this week, the judge ruled that the tackle was deliberate and had been an act of "wanton violence", jailing Mr Chapman for six months.

Since he was unable to work for months after the personal injury, Mr Johnson could now make a claim for compensation against Mr Chapman.

Anyone who is injured due to a bad tackle in any sport may be eligible to claim compensation if it can be proved that the act was negligent.
