Against the odds, with injuries and non availabilities, 14 players boarded the bus bound for Warwick University and the first game of the season in the midlands division. Against the odds, with injuries and non availabilities, 14 players boarded the bus bound for Warwick University and the first game of the season in the midlands division. The game started with Cambridge (nicknamed the Green Lions) taking an early lead after defensive pressure led to Warwick turning the ball over near their goal line. A converted try by the Lions was answered by one from Warwick after some woeful defence, and if it continued they would have had no chance of winning this match. The Lions were getting up the field with comparative ease and this led to more tries and only another scored against them giving a half time score of 20-10 to Cambridge. The second half was always going to be a tough affair as the players were now tiring with no interchange in the forwards and it is to their great credit that they put the game beyond Warwick's reach with more tries and only leaking in two more against. The KCJ Man of the Match was debutant scrum half, Joe Pitt-Rashid who scored a brace of tries and was industrious throughout, signposting him to better things wearing the light blue this season. A special word for the forwards as they ran themselves into the ground to the extent that 2 players were prone on the ground for the last two minutes of the game. Saturday 18th October sees the inaugural KCJ Rugby League College 9's which kicks off at 10.00am at Trinity old fields.
