The results of a civil action against the director of a Norfolk paper recycling company who was convicted of the corporate manslaughter of one of his employees are to be reviewed by the court of appeal tomorrow.

Paul White was a director of M W White Limited of Kettering, near Wymondham, and was convicted in June 2005 of the corporate manslaughter of Kevin Arnup (33), of Norwich. Mr Arnup was a foreman at the plant, which collects and recycles waste paper and cardboard.
In December 2003 Mr Arnup was clearing a paper jam in a shredding machine, assisted by his son Jason (then 15) who also worked there during the school holidays. Whilst Mr Arnup was inside the machine it suddenly started up, trapping him. His son was pulled free by a colleague, but Mr Arnup was dragged into the machine and killed.
Mr Arnup's widow, Melanie, is pursuing a civil action against the company for loss of dependency and bereavement, and Jason Arnup, who witnessed the death of his father, is also bringing a separate case for psychiatric injuries.
