Mr Clarke, 91, who joined up as a marine three years before the war, was also on 'The Manchester' when it sunk.
Mr Chalmers says: "Mr Clarke is very modest about his wartime experiences but was in most theatres of war. He just got on with doing his job and is a very unassuming man."
