Sam Bishop, who is sponsored by Kester Cunningham John, went into the final round of the KTM RC8 Supercup, incorporating the Under 25's Cup, at Silverstone on 26/27th September 2009 with a 12-point lead over his main Cup rival.
Sam Bishop, who is sponsored by Kester Cunningham John, went into the final round of the KTM RC8 Supercup, incorporating the Under 25's Cup, at Silverstone on 26/27th September 2009 with a 12-point lead over his main Cup rival. He knew he had two choices - to go all out for maximum points and risk getting involved in close-contact battles with other riders which could jeopardise his chances of the junior Cup title, or to ride a tactical, safer race to secure enough points to claim the junior crown.
Common sense prevailed over adrenalin, and Sam knew he had to finish no lower than the third Cup rider over the chequered flag. By doing so, he would take 16 Cup points and win the Under 25's Cup with a three point margin. All went to plan and with the help of a well-informed pitboard, Sam finished the race in 13th overall (the first time he had finished a race out of the top ten all season), and 3rd in the Cup.
So with the title of KTM RC8 Supercup Under 25's Champion under his belt for 2009, Sam has already begun testing on his Yamaha R1 in readiness for the National Superstock 1000 Series in 2010 - a televised championship supporting the British Superbike series.
