Simon Cowell accused of helping man to hide fortune in divorce case /resources/news/family/2121-Simon-Cowell-accused-of-helping-man-to-hide-fortune-in-divorce-case

Simon Cowell accused of helping man to hide fortune in divorce case
A woman has accused Simon Cowell of helping her estranged husband to hide a fortune so that it cannot become part of a divorce settlement.

Michelle Young married Simon Young in 1995 and they enjoyed a lavish lifestyle before splitting up in 2006, having had two children.

Now, they are fighting in court over an alleged £400 million, despite Mr Young claiming he is penniless and in debt to the tune of £28 million after losing the lot.

A former 'fixer' for celebrities, Mr Young states that he relies on his new girlfriend for money.

However, Mrs Young insists that he has stored his fortune in offshore accounts and tax havens using false names.

This week, she also claimed that he is worth £2 billion after becoming a secret shareholder in American Idol and accused Cowell and retail mogul Sir Philip Green of helping to conceal his wealth.

When asked by the judge if she was suggesting that the celebrities had intended to "pervert and defeat the course of justice", Mrs Young answered in the affirmative and said she had only found out about it after examining a computer hard drive belonging to her estranged husband.

The hearing will continue this week.

Contrary to this case, the legal process of divorce is usually quite straightforward, but the emotional aspects may be difficult to deal with. The lawyers at KCJ will be able to assist at all stages of the process to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible, taking into account custody of children and all the assets of each individual.

Collaborative law could be the right angle to take for some couples, while others may simply want the divorce finalised as quickly as possible.

Either way, talking to a professional may be a wise step to take in order to work together to achieve the right outcome.
