Wife wins divorce battle over gold bars |
The estranged wife of a multimillionaire has won her case to claim a £2.4 million divorce payout after successfully arguing that her husband tried to keep assets including gold bars from her.
Christina Brandon, 62, claimed last month that her ex-husband had taken the bullion worth £62,000 from the marital home when he walked out on the family in 2006 in a bid to avoid sharing it with her.
However, he insisted that he had not taken the heirlooms and said anyone could have stolen it at any time.
Although Mr Brandon said he did not have a secret fund that he was hiding and had just £2,000 a month to live on, the Court of Appeal this week ruled in favour of Mrs Brandon.
She will now receive a lump sum of £800,000, as well as the remainder of the £2.4 million in property and other assets.
Mr Brandon claimed he will be left "impoverished" by the ruling.
