Jessica Simpson 'to sign a pre-nup with future second husband' /resources/news/family/1906-Jessica-Simpson-to-sign-a-pre-nup-with-future-second-husband

Jessica Simpson 'to sign a pre-nup with future second husband'
Singer and reality TV personality Jessica Simpson and fiance Eric Johnson are set to seek pre-nuptial advice before marrying in an effort to avoid any legal wrangling in the event of a divorce.

According to a recent report in celebrity publication Us Magazine, a source indicated that both parties - who got engaged last month - are satisfied with the idea of entering into such an agreement before they tie the knot.

"There will definitely be a pre-nup. Jessica has said she wants one. Jessica and Eric have talked about it," the anonymous insider explained. "[Eric] understands that there needs to be a pre-nup. He's supportive of it."

Ms Simpson, who launched her singing career in 1999, lost a large amount of money during her divorce from Nick Lachey in 2005 after they failed to sign a pre-nuptial agreement when they wed in 2002.

In October, family lawyer Andrew Greensmith told the Independent that pre-nuptial agreements are becoming increasingly common all over Britain and the US to prevent messy divorces in which spouses are able to claim half of their partner's money.

Mary Pearce, a family law partner based in KCJ's Bury St Edmunds office, adds: "For some while now, pre-nuptial agreements have been common in some states in the USA and certain European countries. Following on from the recent decision in Radmacher, we can expect to see more people in the UK to have an agreement at the time they marry.

"However such agreements will only be effective if properly prepared and entered into. The family team at KCJ all are experienced in the preparation of these agreements."
