Christina Aguilera: Getting a divorce was best thing for my son |
Christina Aguilera has said she thinks getting a divorce was the best thing she could have done for her two-year-old son.
The singer, whose own parents split when she was seven, announced her separation from Jordan Bratman recently and told People magazine it was a decision she agonised over.
However, she ultimately realised she had been unhappy for a long time during her five-year marriage and did not want little Max to grow up among arguments and tension.
"When you're unhappy in your marriage, your children are the ones who suffer. That's the last thing I wanted for my son," Aguilera explained.
In October 2010, Christina Tait, founder and manager of DivorceAid.co.uk recommended that couples in unhappy marriages may be better off seeking a family law solicitor and separating.
She pointed out that this could be the start to a new and successful life for both parties, whereas staying in a bad relationship may be damaging in the long term.
