Dawn French and Lenny Henry granted a divorce |
Dawn French and Lenny Henry have been granted a divorce at the High Court, it has been revealed.
The comedians did not attend the brief proceedings in London, but District Judge Penny Cushing granted the official end to their marriage on the grounds of Henry's "unreasonable behaviour".
Married in 1984, French and Henry were thought to have one of the strongest unions in showbiz until they announced their separation in April this year.
They insisted the split would be amicable for the sake of their adopted daughter Billie and have indeed remained largely out of the public eye with their personal lives since then.
Christina Tait, founder of advisory service DivorceAid.co.uk, recently highlighted French and Henry's divorce as a good example of how to split in a mature manner.
The expert praised their ability to discuss important issues such as custody in a civil manner and recommended seeking the advice of an expert family law solicitor in order to do the same.
Neale Grearson, a family law partner at KCJ adds: "This does show that amicable divorces are not only possible but are becoming more of the norm. It is now only the "tip of the iceberg" of divorces that end in a huge wrangle.
"Developments such as collaborative law and mediation allied to the greater awareness of family solicitors to the wider needs of a couple have helped exclude the extremes of marriage breakdown seen regularly in the past. Dawn and Lenny show how it can be done but so are many more people throughout the country that are not in the public eye."
