Robbie Williams and Ayda Field 'signed a pre-nuptial agreement' |
Robbie Williams has protected his multi-million pound fortune by signing a pre-nuptial agreement, according to reports.
The pop star - who is estimated to have made £80 million during his tempestuous career - secured the agreement ahead of his wedding to Ayda Field, which took place in California on Saturday (August 7th 2010).
This arrangement would limit any payout Williams would have to provide to Field should the marriage fail, the Sun attests.
Williams is currently the 28th wealthiest person on the Sunday Times Music Rich List and owns an £8.5 million property in the UK, as well as a mansion in Los Angeles, a fleet of classic cars and a £9 million yacht.
The exact details of the pre-nup and the maximum divorce payout have not been revealed.
Williams proposed to his wife live on Australian radio in November 2009.
Last month, Resolution spokesperson Sarah Anticoni called for pre-nups to be made legally binding in the UK, claiming it would make it much easier for family law solicitors to resolve issues caused by divorce.
Neale Grearson, a family law partner in Kester Cunningham John's Norwich office, adds: "Pre-nuptial agreements are not just for the very rich and famous. Increasing numbers of averagely well-off business people are starting to take the idea of a pre-nuptial agreement seriously on the basis that it can help to protect business assets they have built up over a number of years.
"They are also favoured by people who are marrying for the second time and want to protect assets for the benefit of children from a previous marriage".
