Sandra Bullock's divorce is finalised in the US |
Sandra Bullock's divorce has been finalised in the US, just two months after she filed the papers.
The Oscar-winning actress was reportedly keen to split from estranged husband Jesse James quickly after it emerged that he had been cheating on her throughout their five-year marriage.
She cited "discord or conflict of personalities" as the official reason behind the divorce.
Bullock, 45, is now free to apply for single mother status for Louis, the little boy she adopted in April from New Orleans.
In many cases, the spouses of celebrities have been able to claim large portions of their assets after a divorce, but this is not the case for Bullock as she lives in Texas.
There, a couple would have to be married for ten years before qualifying for spousal support.
Earlier this month, it was reported that LeAnn Rimes' divorce had been finalised, six months after the papers were originally filed.
Neale Grearson, a family law partner at KCJ, comments: "The position regarding maintenance for a spouse highlights the different laws that apply between different countries - and in America between different states.
"In this country the responsibility to maintain a spouse arises immediately from getting married. Problems occur where people misunderstand the position about a couple living together who are not married - misleadingly often called 'common law husband and wife.'
"There is no right to spousal maintenance if a couple are not married."
