LeAnn Rimes' divorce is finalised |
LeAnn Rimes' divorce has been finalised in the US, six months after she and her former husband Dean Sheremet filed the papers.
The singer got married in 2002 aged 19, but she and Sheremet grew apart and she was photographed in summer 2009 allegedly having an affair with her Northern Lights co-star Edie Cibrian.
Both were married at the time, but they decided to leave their respective partners in order to be together and Cibrian is now in the process of divorcing from his estranged wife Brandi Glanville, US Weekly reports.
It is not known whether Rimes, who has amassed a significant fortune thanks to her country music career, signed a pre-nuptial agreement before she wed Sheremet.
Earlier this month, she said she regretted the hurt caused by the breakdown of her relationship, but added that she does not regret the outcome.
KCJ family partner Neale Grearson comments: "Whether or not LeAnn had a pre-nuptial agreement before her first marriage, she should certainly be considering creating one if she chooses to remarry now she is free to do so.
"In the US pre-nuptial agreements are already legally binding while in the UK we are currently awaiting the final outcome of the Radmacher v Granatino case which will set the scene for future enforceability here.
"Even where they are not yet legally binding, they are becoming increasingly popular as an expression of intention which is generally taken into account by the courts and are particularly favoured by those embarking on a second marriage." Meanwhile, actor Ryan Phillipe recently told Men's Health magazine that he still feels sadness about his divorce from Reese Witherspoon four years after the event.
