Tiger and Elin Woods 'have called in divorce lawyers' |
A practitioner of family law has been hired by the wife of golfer Tiger Woods in preparation for a divorce. Elin Woods has brought in the top lawyer to investigate her husband's finances and hidden assets, as she is hoping to secure a £240 million legal deal with the cheating sportsman. According to the Mirror, a friend close to Elin said: "She said from the beginning that she didn't want to fight over money, but at the same time she wants to know exactly how much money Tiger really has." The source added that the £240 million figure is fair as it is around one-third of his total worth. However, Tiger is no longer on speaking terms with his wife and the pair are communicating through their lawyers, it has been said. Kerry Katona recently told the Daily Star that she was reluctant to end marriage with Mark Croft as she could not face the thought of a potentially traumatic divorce.
Neale Grearson, a family law specialist at Kester Cunningham John, adds: "How common is this? Leaving aside the fame of the couple and the money involved, this is a very common scenario which many people face when going through a separation or divorce.
"Getting to the bottom of what the assets are is vital, although in this country where there is a long marriage the starting point is often the equal division of assets. During such an emotional time people do "fight over money" and then regret it as it can become very traumatic.
"Alternatives such as mediation and collaborative law are increasingly being pursued to try to avoid the worst aspects of a marriage breakdown and try to ensure the couple themselves keep control of the process."
