Sharing out household tasks 'could prevent divorce' |
Ensuring that couples share out their household tasks equally could prevent them from having to divorce, a new study has concluded.
Research carried out for the government's Gender Equality Network by Wendy Sigle-Rushton found that when both the man and the woman in a partnership worked, their probability of splitting up was 6.5 per cent.
However, when they shared chores equally and the man looked after any offspring to allow the woman to work, this dropped to 3.2 per cent.
When the man made "minimal" contributions to chores and the woman went out to work, the likelihood of divorce shot up by 97 per cent.
Anastasia de Waal of Civitas commented: "In some ways the 'having it all' agenda has translated into women doing it all."
Last month, a poll conducted by Fitfies.co.uk found that it takes the average divorcee 17 months and 26 days to recover from a split.
