Survey reveals lasting impact of divorce |
A new survey has revealed that the emotional impacts of divorce may last far beyond the period soon after separation.
Research carried out by Fifties.co.uk found that it takes an average of 17 months and 26 days to get over a divorce, with financial disputes and child custody cases cited as some of the main reasons for this.
However, five per cent of respondents reported that it had taken them several years to come to terms with their divorce and a fifth said they think they may never get over it.
A spokesperson for Fifties.co.uk said: "Divorce is tough for everyone involved
it could feasibly take years for the dust to settle after a split."
For this reason, independent advice portal DivorceAid.co.uk recommends always seeking the advice of an expert divorce solicitor when going through a separation.
It points out that any financial disputes which arise could lengthen the process and make it harder emotionally, so impartial counsel is an essential.
