Millionaire seeks appeal over 'unfair' divorce ruling |
A millionaire landowner is seeking an appeal against a divorce ruling after claiming that his assets were negatively affected by the property market slump.
Erik Maurice Robson and Chloe Robson separated last year and a court ruled that she should receive a gross lump sum of £8 million.
It was also decreed that Kiddington Hall in Oxfordshire should be sold in order to help divide the marital assets.
However, Mr Robson argues that this is unfair, because it was part of an inheritance from his parents and is not related to the wealth accrued during the 25-year marriage.
He also claims that the property has declined in value by almost £3 million since the order was given to sell the stately home as a result of the credit crunch, meaning that the settlement is "too much".
The landowner now hopes to secure a hearing at the Court of Appeal in order to overturn the original ruling.
This comes after an heiress was last month ordered to pay £5 million to her estranged husband on top of their divorce settlement after he lost millions in the property market slump.
