Family law review 'should prioritise mediation in divorce'
The government has been called upon to give a more prominent legal standing to mediation and other collaborative law services for those going through a divorce.

Charity group Families Need Fathers has suggested that an upcoming review of the family law system should aim to promote amicable cooperation between separating couples in order to reduce the impact on children.

It welcomed news that the government will be consulting on the charity's proposal that mediation should become a compulsory measure before a divorce case goes to court.

This avenue of collaborative law was also promoted earlier this month by the Law Society, which recommended that couples consult their solicitors over mediation options to avoid an acrimonious legal battle.

Jon Davies, chief executive officer of Families Need Fathers, said the family law review can have a potentially "major impact" for those currently suffering due to unnecessarily stressful divorce proceedings.

He added that the charity is looking forward to "working with government to take these proposals forward".ADNFCR-2347-ID-19567187-ADNFCR
