Solicitors 'can make divorce process easier'
Couples going through a separation have been advised to ensure they consult a lawyer to make the difficult experience as smooth and painless as possible.

The Law Society has suggested that couples who do not take legal advice on their divorce proceedings are likely to find themselves disadvantaged and more likely to undergo a drawn-out legal process.

Moreover, such individuals are more likely to see their case go to court due to a lack of information about alternative options, such as mediation and collaborative law.

Those involved in divorce are therefore recommended to visit a specialist family law solicitor, who can provide them with the necessary expertise and counsel to reach a smooth conclusion.

Robert Heslett, Law Society president, said: "Divorce is stressful, the legalities can be complicated and emotions can cloud reasoning, so it is important to consult an expert from the outset to receive independent, impartial, objective advice."

The potential benefits of out-of-court divorce settlements were highlighted earlier this month by government proposals to make consideration of mediation a legal obligation for separating couples.

This was welcomed by family law group Resolution, which stated that such amicable solutions can help to provide fairer settlements.ADNFCR-2347-ID-19383660-ADNFCR
