Businesses told to take health and safety seriously
Businesses in the UK have been urged to mitigate the risk of personal injury by managing hazards appropriately.

According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), about 400 employees across the country are injured at work every day.

Figures from the organisation also show that last year, 229 people were killed at work in the UK.

As a result, the regulator has insisted that employers ensure they take health and safety seriously, as businesses that fail to heed this warning could potentially face compensation claims.

Jane Willis, spokesperson for the HSE, commented: "It's even more important during a recession that companies have good health and safety procedures."

She said this is because safe working environments tend to be the most productive and profitable.

Ms Willis added that taking preventative measures to avoid a personal injury at work is much better than dealing with the consequences of any incident.
