Minister calls for employment law reform

Date: 11 November 2011

Employment minister Chris Grayling has called for reform of employment law to be made faster by the coalition government, urging the state to cut red tape affecting businesses.

He told the Federation of Small Businesses he will travel to Brussels in order to fight against the "tide" of regulations causing issues for firms trying to grow, reports the Press Association. Mr Grayling said: "It will hold back growth. It will cost jobs. It will make Europe more uncompetitive and it has to stop."

He recommended employment law be reformed so that the government is "tough" on those companies flouting important health and safety regulations, but "leave the rest to work with as little interference as possible". Mr Grayling added that he is aiming to rebuild the regulatory system in the UK to make this possible.

In August, the Trades Union Congress launched its Basic Rights @ Work microsite in a bid to provide information for workers wishing to know more about employment law.

Companies and individuals needing help with employment law issues can get advice from the team at Ashton KCJ.
