BAE Systems reveals redundancy package
BAE Systems has revealed it is making thousands of employees redundant in order to secure the long-term future of the company.

The defence organisation announced up to 3,000 people could see their jobs go as a result of the move, which chief executive Ian King stated was down to a need to remain competitive.

Almost 900 workers at the firm's site in Brough are to be given redundancy packages, while 1,100 jobs across Lancashire are being cut.

Employees based in sites in locations such as Yeovil, Filton, Frimley and Farnborough may also be affected.

Mr King said: "To ensure we remain competitive - both in the UK and internationally - we need to reduce the overall costs of our businesses in line with our reduced workload."

The union representing the BAE workers, Unite, immediately announced it is going to fight against the redundancy plans and called for the government to save the highly skilled posts.
