Workplace stress soars amid redundancy and security fears |
A new report has found that workplace stress is soaring amid fears about money and redundancy.
The Money Sickness Syndrome research from Axa showed that as many as 42 million workers at all levels are now suffering from stress and anxiety, with concerns about job losses cited as one of the main reasons.
Axa spokesperson Eugene Farrell said employers need to do more to prevent stress levels resulting in more time off, particularly with impending cuts in the public sector.
"It would be useful for public sector employers to be mindful of this situation as they are in an ideal situation to provide support for people," he added.
Employee support initiatives and counselling for those struggling with anxiety were suggested as potentially beneficial measures.
Last month, a report from Medicash found that six per cent of British workers now feel stressed all the time at work, with a third having called in sick recently as a result.
