Stress at work is too much for some, survey finds |
New research has highlighted how employers may be putting their staff at risk by exposing them to high levels of stress.
A study by Medicash showed that a third of UK workers have called in sick after being unable to take any more pressure at work, while six per cent reported feeling stressed all the time.
One in ten respondents said the pressure is so bad they dread going to work, while another 12 per cent admitted having left a job because they did not want to put up with the stress anymore, according to HR Magazine.
Furthermore, around one in ten employees said they allay their work-related worries at the end of each day by having a drink.
Medicash spokesperson Sue Weir warned: "Small amounts of alcohol can be good for us but regularly relying on alcohol to lift your mood after a bad day can lead to long-term dependence."
Many British workers believe the way their manager handles staff is a key cause of stress in the workplace, research from the Health and Safety Executive has found.
