Redundancy 'should be combined with better help for workers'
A survey of British employees has found that many think they should be given better help after being made redundant in order to help them find a new job.

The poll, carried out by Hays, discovered that 82.2 per cent believe career guidance or interview advice should be compulsory for people who have been dismissed from their jobs.

A further two-thirds said they would like to see the government provide funds for these career transition services.

Currently, 73 per cent reported not having received this kind of help after being made redundant, with almost half saying it was because their company did not have the funds.

Hays spokesperson Mark Staniland said: "A better use of available funds may be to focus on those employees experiencing redundancy and offering them practical help."

In March 2010, research carried out by Careerplan4.me found that one in three people thought their redundancy had been handled badly, People Management magazine reported.
