Employment law disputes should be resolved by members of staff and their employers as soon as possible, in a bid to avoid the case going to a tribunal.

This is according to the employment relations minister Edward Davey, who stated there were over 215,000 cases of this type last year.

Speaking to HR magazine, he explained this cost the taxpayer £84 million over the 12 months.

"The whole process ties businesses, their managers and HR professionals within these organisations, up in red tape," said the minister, who added this is why the coalition government has launched a series of measures in a bid to simplify employment law in the last few months.

Ann Swain, chief executive at the Association of Professional Staffing Companies, recently claimed changes to employment law such as the introduction of the Agency Workers Regulations are going to result in temporary workers being let go by organisations.
