Print workers win statutory redundancy case

A group of print workers from Gloucestershire have won their employment law case and will now be paid statutory redundancy pay as a result.

The employment tribunal said Orchestra, which is based near Wotton-under-Edge, failed to consult its 51 members of staff on the closure of the company, reports BBC News.

Trevor Hall, of union Unite, said solicitors will now be examining how the redundancy pay is to be given to the workers, who lost their jobs in June.

"It's unclear whether the company will be in a position to pay or whether it will come from a redundancy protection organisation, that's being investigated by our solicitors," said Mr Hall.

He added one way or another, the 51 former employees of the firm will now be receiving their redundancy payments as a result of the employment law ruling.

Earlier this month it was revealed 43 members of staff at electrical contractor S Barratt and Co are to lose their jobs due to the failure of the company, the Manchester Evening News reported.
