Redundancy for electrical contractor workers

Employees at an electrical contractor in the north of England have been told that they are facing redundancy as a result of the liquidation of the company.

Some 43 members of staff will lose their positions due to the mounting debts at S Barratt and Co, the administrators said according to a report by the Manchester Evening News.

"The joint administrators are working with certain key employees to finalise the position on each contract however 43 employees have been made redundant," said a statement from them.

Barratt had undertaken projects at Oldham College, Bolton University, Chetham’s School in Manchester and Selfridges at the Trafford Centre, as well as working on the £15 million Whalley Range High School for Girls in Manchester.

This comes shortly after the Audit Commission and Local Government Association said it was "inevitable" more public sector workers will be facing redundancy as a result of financial cutbacks, with chairman Sir Merrick Cockell noting restructuring, shared services and outsourcing will be used to prevent disruption.
