Teacher wins case for unfair dismissal
A teacher who claims she was unfairly singled out for redundancy has won her case for unfair dismissal.

Denise Lund had worked at Ysgol y Fron in Holywell for 20 years when she lost her job in May 2009, IC Cheshire Online reports.

Although headteacher Peter Davies claimed she was selected because the school needed to make significant cuts, Ms Lund felt he had a grudge against her due to previous incidents in which she had disagreed with him and had requested time off.

She took legal action, claiming that Mr Davies had skewed the redundancy criteria against her and had failed to take into account her excellence in her specialist subjects.

At an employment law tribunal, she has now won her case after it was agreed that the proper processes had not been followed during her dismissal. Another hearing is set to take place to decide what compensation she will receive.

In 2010, science teacher David Roy won £63,000 in unfair dismissal compensation after being sacked for an incident involving misconduct.

He was not guilty of the misdemeanour, but was still removed from his position at Collegiate High School in Blackpool, the Telegraph reported.
