Expert calls for government to take more action on boardroom equality
More action needs to be taken in order to make sure the UK's employment law system continues to combat gender inequality in business boardrooms.

That is according to Marla Nelson, founder of campaign group WomEnterprise, who believes that government policymakers can still do more despite the recent publication of Lord Davies of Abersoch's report on the sector representing a "step in the right direction".

Last week (February 24th 2011), Lord Abersoch revealed that his independent investigation into gender equality at boardroom level of major firms across the country established that by 2015, a minimum of 25 per cent of all board members at organisations listed on the FTSE 100 index should be female.

Ms Nelson has praised this recommendation, but added that the government needs to ensure that it is "actually achieved" rather than just discussed.

"Companies can't just hope that by default more women will start to access board positions," she added.
